ABC News Fact Check of Gov. Palin’s Speech

September 4, 2008

ABC News has done a “fact check” of Gov. Palin’s first major speech and posted a poorly written article on their website titled “On Obama, Earmarks, Palin Less Than Honest”.  Written by Russel Goldman, many of his “facts” are either weak or widely open to opinion, however the obvious reason Mr. Goldman wrote the article was his first and “most powerful” argument about Palin’s comment on Obama’s position on Iraq.

Gov. Palin: “[Obama] is a man who can give an entire speech about the wars America is fighting, and never use the word ‘victory’ except when he’s talking about his own campaign.”

Russel Goldman of ABC News wrote:

FACT: On July 15, in a speech in Washington, D.C., Obama twice used the word “victory” in reference to Iraq.

“In fact,” he said, “true success in Iraq — victory in Iraq — will not take place in a surrender ceremony where an enemy lays down their arms. . . I want Iraqis to take responsibility for their own future, and to reach the political accommodation necessary for long-term stability. That’s victory. That’s success. That’s what’s best for Iraq, that’s what’s best for America, and that’s why I will end this war as President.

I guess ‘Rus’ missed Gov. Palin’s point; the point is that Obama will never talk about success in Iraq which might be attributed to anyone other than himself. Rus’ “fact check'” not only wrongly accuses Gov. Palin of being dishonest, but actually helps prove here point. Let me explain.

Obama clearly was speaking about victory in Iraq with him as President (of which he is not), so the victory in Iraq he spoke about can only be as a result of a victory of his campaign for President.

And to Rus and the Editorial team at ABC News.  When writing an article that will be read by millions, the professional thing to do is to read the article for grammatical mistakes prior to rushing your garbage articles out the door.

Soon after entering office, Palin put the state-owned Westwind II jet that her predecessor Frank Murkowski’s purchased amid much criticism. When the deal fell through with the sole eBay bidder, the plane was sold offline.

What exactly did Palin put the state-owned Westwind II jet on?  How about a complete sentence?  That’s why I’m here for yah Rus.
